Born and raised in Miami, Florida, and proud of his Cuban heritage,
Dr. Norbert Garcia-Henriquez has built his life and career around service, perseverance, and a deep commitment to humanity. His personal journey has been his greatest source of motivation, inspiring him to become what he describes as “a man of the people.” That mindset continues to guide him today as he serves patients with compassion, expertise, and an unwavering dedication to excellence.
Dr. Garcia-Henriquez’s path to medicine spans several respected institutions across North America. He began medical school in Guadalajara, Mexico, before earning his medical degree from New York Medical College. He launched his surgical career at the University of Pittsburgh and completed his general surgery training at the University of South Florida. He then pursued specialized fellowship training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Brown University. Today, he specializes in the full spectrum of colorectal health including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, anorectal pathology, and complex minimally invasive surgery. Six years ago, he joined AdventHealth and relocated to Orlando, where he found not only a professional home but also an opportunity to serve the region’s growing Hispanic community.
For Dr. Garcia-Henriquez, success is not defined by titles or accomplishments—it is defined by the journey itself. He believes in showing up every day, putting in the work, and embracing the path to continuous growth. Whether performing surgery, conducting colonoscopies, caring for patients in clinic, or rounding in the hospital, he approaches each day with purpose. One of the most meaningful aspects of his career is mentoring the next generation of colon and rectal surgeons, helping trainees develop the skills, discipline, and confidence needed to reach their full potential.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Garcia-Henriquez finds joy in family, fitness, cars, and lifelong learning. He is a devoted father of two young men, Nicolas and Andres. He credits his parents for instilling the values that shaped his life. His guiding philosophy is simple: “Success is what you make it.”
