Orlando Style: What inspired the creation of “The Original Ting,” and how does it stand out as one of AC Skybar’s signature cocktails on your menu?
Brian Louis: enjoy sipping cocktails that draw inspiration from various cultures. Sorrel is a beloved drink in Jamaican culture, and I aimed to give it a twist by introducing a touch of complexity and pizzaz.
Orlando Style: Can you walk us through the key ingredients and what makes the flavor profile of “The Original Ting” so refreshing and unique?
Brian Louis: The essential component of this cocktail is hibiscus, which I transform into a flavorful spiced syrup by infusing it with cinnamon, oranges, star anise, and ginger. Next, I layer in two liqueurs: sorrel and crème de cassis. The base is Wray and Nephew, a robust Jamaican overproof rum, and to finish it off, I add a splash of club soda for that refreshing touch.

Brian Louis: Every detail of this cocktail has been carefully considered, from the glassware to the garnishes. The pilsner glass offers a sleek and sophisticated appearance. The orchid adds a touch of tropical charm. The mint invigorates your senses, while the torched cinnamon brings a spectacular flair and “wow” factor to the drink.
