Collaborative Family Law Attorney | Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator

The Aikin Family Law Group

My desire to help families has never wavered since I graduated from the University Of Florida Levin College Of Law and started practicing in Orlando, some thirty (30) years ago. My goal is to help make our community a more vibrant and healthy place – one family at a time.

For the past 23 years I have practiced exclusively in the area of family law at The Aikin Family Law Group, www.AikinLaw.com. My practice includes divorce, child custody issues, paternity cases, support, modifications and Guardian Ad Litem cases.   My years of training and experience in working with children and families have given me valuable conflict resolution skills that allow me to guide families to achieve positive outcomes.  To reach these outcomes, I utilize collaborative law, mediation, and strategic and responsible litigation.

I am a member of The Collaborative Family Law Group of Central Florida, where I serve as a board member as well as the Administrator of this professional non-profit organization,

www.cfl-cfl.com.  The collaborative law process allows families to utilize a professional team to resolve their conflict, without going to court

As a Certified Florida Supreme Court Mediator I often mediate cases for families who are not represented by lawyers.  This is called “Pro Se” mediation.  In “Pro Se” mediation, I meet with couples to facilitate their discussions and help them work together towards minimizing losses and maximizing outcomes both financially and emotionally.  These meetings are conducted in the privacy of our office and not in the courtroom.  Most importantly, this process helps avoid destructive battles that impact couples and any children involved, and is much more cost-effective.

Also, I have the privilege of teaching collaborative law as an adjunct law professor at The Barry University Dewayne O. Andreas School of Law in Orlando. In my role at Barry, I am the Director of The Collaborative Family Law Clinic, which assists families who financially qualify for free help with divorce or paternity actions.  I am a collaborative law trainer and speaker, teaching professionals how to practice collaborative law.

In 2016, I had the honor of being awarded the Judge J.C. “Jake” Stone Distinguished Service Award for my work as a Guardian Ad Litem.  In 2017, I was extremely humbled to receive The Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award for the Ninth Judicial Circuit.

I am so grateful to be able to serve the community through my practice, my teaching, and my pro bono work with children and families.   Whether working with couples in my conference room or in the courtroom, I am committed to helping families achieve a healthier and more positive future.
