Dr. Michael Steppie is a board-certified physician who has completed residencies in internal medicine, dermatology and dermatologic surgery. He is also a Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgeon and the president and medical director of Associates in Dermatology: “Your Skin Cancer and Skin Care Specialists”.
Over the past 25 years, Associates in Dermatology’s mission has been to offer patients access to the latest and most advanced dermatologic treatments for surgical and non-surgical procedures as well as cosmetic dermatology.
It boasts a staff of deeply committed board-certified dermatologists, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and paramedical clinical estheticians and has grown to 12 locations throughout 6 Central Florida counties.
Associates in Dermatology has become a leading practice for skin cancer treatment, essentially using Mohs surgery, which provides an average 99 percent cure rate for Basal Cell Carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer; and in 2012, Associates in Dermatology became the first practice in Central Florida to introduce a cutting-edge technology – Superficial Radiation Therapy with the SRT 100 from Sensus healthcare – which provides an alternative to surgical procedures for specific types of skin cancers.
In addition, this state-of-the-art practice has “in-house” CAP (College of American Pathologists) or CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) accredited laboratories to deliver the most accurate diagnostic/prognostic information needed to provide the best possible outcome.
Dr. Steppie’s main focus for years has been actively assisting in skin cancer prevention, as skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with more than 3.5 million cases diagnosed annually.
In an effort to help educate Central Florida residents about the risks of skin cancer, Dr. Steppie has been providing free-of-charge skin cancer screenings, sponsoring Fox 35’s UV Index feature for several consecutive years and regularly contributing to print, television and online media coverage of skin cancer issues, including in the Skin Cancer Foundation Journal. No doubt, you’ve seen some of this coverage in local media outlets, especially in May, officially declared Skin Cancer Awareness Month.
In addition to excisions of skin cancers, moles and skin lesions, Associates in Dermatology treats a number of skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne, eczema, allergic dermatitis, warts, and also diseases of the hair and nails.
Its loyal patients also trust its providers for their cosmetic services. Top offerings include injectable muscle relaxers like Botox® and Xeomin®, dermal fillers including Juvederm® and Belotero® Balance, just to name a few as well as permanent hair removal, sclerotherapy, laser skin resurfacing, pulsed light therapy as well as medical strength chemical peels
With springtime wrapping up and summer just around the corner, remember that while the warm rays of the sun seem tempting, they also pose a range of risks from premature aging of your skin to potentially deadly skin cancer. We here at Associates in Dermatology urge you to adopt sun-smart practices and remember that the practice of dermatology involves improving and maintaining not only the appearance but also the health of your skin, hair, and nails.
