McMillen Law Firm, A Professional Association
Medical malpractice cases are some of the most difficult of all civil litigation cases to handle. Although McMillen Law Firm also handles other types of injury cases, Scott R. McMillen has distinguished himself by thirty-plus years of success in handling major medical malpractice cases.
McMillen grew up in Orlando, and is a proud graduate of Boone High School, where incidentally, his sister currently serves as school principal. After receiving his B.S. in Government from Florida State University in 1976, and his Doctor of Law degree from Emory University in 1979, McMillen returned home to begin his legal career. His wife was pregnant at the time with their first child, Allison, who is now one of the lawyers practicing with him at McMillen Law Firm.
Although for the last 27 years McMillen has exclusively represented patients and their families, for the first 7 years of his career he gained invaluable malpractice experience representing several Central Florida area hospitals.
“We really pride ourselves on the personal service we give to our clients,” McMillen says. “In order to provide this level of service, we decided long ago to limit our practice to only a select number of cases so that we can give every case, and every client, a great deal of personal attention.” McMillen says that even though his firm refuses to advertise on TV or other mainstream media, they are fortunate to be able to turn away more than 300 cases for every case the firm accepts. His only regret about not being a “T.V.” advertising lawyer, says McMillen, is that he sees lawyers now advertising with their pets, and he knows his Labradoodle, Max, would easily be the best “lawyer dog” on T.V. Max comes to work every day, where he very happily greets all visitors at the door (except the mailman).
McMillen routinely handles medical malpractice cases throughout Florida and Georgia, although he has been brought in to serve as lead trial counsel in major malpractice cases as far away as Arkansas. In Central Florida, his peers think highly enough of him that they have elected him to serve as President of the Orange County Bar Association, the Legal Aid Society, and the Central Florida Trial Lawyers Association. They also elected him to serve for six years as one of their representatives on the Florida Bar Board of Governors, which serves under the jurisdiction of the Florida Supreme Court and is a 52-member statewide body governing the Florida Bar’s 100,000 lawyers. McMillen is Martindale-Hubbell rated AV Preeminent (5.0), which is the highest rating given, and according Martindale-Hubbell is a testament to the fact that his peers rank him at the highest level of professional excellence.
