Attorney at Law
From the age of 15, Paul Courtright played with a group called The Thunderbird Band out of Denver. Paul and the band eventually made a new home in Branson, Missouri with internationally known entertainers. Paul’s band days were formative ones; he saw the law protecting and guiding every aspect of the hard work put into his performances and life. This touchstone set Paul on a path to law.
Paul graduated with honors from the University of Denver. Paul then continued studying Law and Communications at the University of Denver under the Honorable John L. Kane, Jr., Senior Judge of the U.S. District Court of Colorado. Paul then earned his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. In his final year at Cooley Law School, Paul served under Chief Justice Elizabeth A. Weaver of the Michigan Supreme Court.
In 2001, Paul began his legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in Seminole County, Florida. Serving the people of the State of Florida was a privilege and honor. Paul recalls a case in which his request to examine a fingerprint saved a young man from being wrongfully tried for a crime he did not commit. Protecting someone’s life, liberty, and property is one of the most important responsibilities an attorney can undertake. Since then, Paul aggressively defends clients charged in state felony, misdemeanor, DUI, and traffic cases throughout Florida’s courts. Paul brings his experience as a former Assistant State Attorney and years of criminal defense work and care to each client as the criminal legal process is navigated.
Paul also represents clients in civil litigation, wills, probate, trusts, real estate, intellectual property, and entertainment law matters. He vigorously represents individuals and large Fortune 1000 companies across Florida. He represents difficult estate matters that run concurrent with wrongful death actions. He is an expert witness on attorney’s fees in Florida. He has been appointed by the Florida Circuit Courts to serve as attorney ad litem in a variety of lien foreclosure and eminent domain matters. He is an advocate for children with Autism and Down’s Syndrome. He can advise on special needs trust matters. He also advises artists and attorneys on legal issues in the entertainment industry. To Paul, each client and their matter are unique and important.
Paul’s legal talent and contributions to society have been recognized by Marquis’ Who’s Who in American Law. The best recognition however is when the client smiles after being helped by Paul’s legal guidance and work.
In addition to his busy legal practice, Paul is an adjunct law professor at Barry University School of Law where for over eight years he has enjoyed teaching Entertainment Law, Sports Law, and Copyright Law.
Paul is a member of The Florida Bar and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
During his free time with family, Paul is an avid skier, traveler, drummer, and photographer. Paul is active in the Boy Scouts of America – Central Florida Council as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 641 and as the Committee Chair for Cub Scout Pack 627 in Maitland, Florida. Paul and his wife, Dawn, are the proud parents of two children.
