Katz & Phillips, P.A.
Matthew Gunter is a Florida trial lawyer with a passion for criminal law. His interest in criminal law started as an undergraduate at the University of Florida where he earned a degree in criminal justice. He’s a diehard Gator fan and attends as many home games at The Swamp as possible. As his interest in the legal field grew, Mr. Gunter decided to attend law school.
In 2009, Mr. Gunter graduated from Barry University-Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law in Orlando, Florida. After graduation, he started private practice in Brevard County focusing in family law and criminal law with a caseload throughout Central Florida. He later moved on to work for the State Attorney’s Office and prosecuted thousands of cases in the 18th Judicial Circuit for Seminole County as an Assistant State Attorney. His caseload included prosecuting defendants for driving under the influence, theft, drug possession, assault, and battery. It was during this time he grew his experience and developed strong legal skills as a trial lawyer.
While at the state attorney’s office, Matthew was soon promoted to the domestic violence division. It was in that position where he attended to victims of domestic violence, stalking, and injunction violations. His passion for justice eventually caught the eye of Katz & Phillips, P.A.
Currently, Mr. Gunter is a criminal defense attorney at Katz & Phillips, P.A. Using the insight and skills he developed as a prosecutor, Matthew provides effective and zealous legal representation for clients who are facing criminal charges. On describing his approach to handling cases, Gunter says “Our firm is very aggressive when it comes to challenging the state’s evidence. With DUI charges, for instance, we’ve successfully kept intoxilyzer results out of court for several years now because we’ve shown the results to be unreliable.” Whether accused of simple misdemeanor offenses or complex felonies, Matthew Gunter and the Katz & Phillips team provide experienced professional representation.
Matthew also acts as legal counsel to Dancing for Diabetes, Inc., a non-profit organization that raises money for the American Diabetes Association by putting on an annual dance performance showcasing dozens of dance teams. Additionally, Matthew serves on the advisory board for matters such as event planning, fund raising, and advertising. His goal this year is for Dancing for Diabetes to raise $50,000. When speaking about the event, Matthew said “It’s going to be an exciting show with some amazing performances. I hope everyone can make it out and support a great cause.”
