Style Events, News & Gossip from Around the City

It’s hard to believe we’re nearly halfway through 2014 when it feels like we only just finished watching the Time’s Square ball drop! This year is moving by at breakneck speed and it’s in big part due to the fact that Orlando has kept us so busy with month after month of unforgettably thrilling events. April proved to be yet another exciting month for the City Beautiful and we’ve got all the highlights for you, but first let’s take a look back at some of the fun we shared in March.

On March 13th, more than 300 local leaders, celebrities and community activists took to the streets of downtown Orlando for the 2nd annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Orlando. WAM seeks to raise awareness about domestic abuse in Central Florida by getting key community leaders to strap on a pair of high heels and walk nearly one mile. Both men and women participated in this one of a kind event, proving that heels can be useful for far more than just great looking calves in your favorite dress! Through the walk, the group raised a remarkable $25,000 for domestic abuse awareness. Proceeds from the event benefited Harbor House of Central Florida, Orange County’s only state-certified domestic violence facility.

The wait is finally over! Runway to Hope’s Spring Fashion Soiree is right around the corner and on March 31st, the organization officially made the highly anticipated announcement of who will be hosting this year’s event. In 2013, we saw Olympic gold gymnast Gabby Douglas and Twilight actress Ashley Greene take to the stage as celebrity co-hosts of one of Central Florida’s favorite charity events. This year we have none other than—drumroll please!—Brooke Burke-Charvet and Ross Matthews! Brooke is a widely recognized actress, dancer, model and television personality. Ross is also a television personality and host his very own talk show on E! network, Hello Ross. All of us at Orlando Style are so excited to hear the announcement of the 2014 hosts and we are even more excited to be less than two weeks away from the big event! Co-founders Mark and Josie NeJame established Runway to Hope in 2010 and it has since grown to become a truly signature fundraising event. The highlight of the evening is a fashion show featuring more than 100 beautiful and brave children, ages 2 to 18, all who are currently battling or have overcome cancer. On May 10th, dozens of national and local celebrities will escort these courageous children down the runway (including our very own Sven Bode) in an unforgettable show of true beauty and strength. Don’t wait around for the In Case You Missed It highlights! Find out how you can attend the Spring Fashion Soiree by visiting

On April 3rd, David Yurman replaced the company’s former store in the Mall at Millenia with the unveiling of their brand new boutique in the mall. If you enjoyed David Yurman’s previous retail location, you’ll fall in love with this new space! An expansion to 1,993 square-feet allows the premier fine jewelry and timepiece designer to offer a larger selection and a more unique shopping experience for customers. With their classically modern architecture, every element of the gorgeous interior reflects the brand’s luxurious yet relaxed aesthetic. The store’s relocation and renovations proved to be a great decision as numerous mall goers showed up to the grand opening. Shoppers browsed through David Yurman’s classic and newly launched collections such as gold and sterling silver designs for women and men, timepieces, the Wedding Collection, the Hampton Cable Collection, pieces from the Petite Pavé Collection and more!

It’s that time of year again! The highly anticipated Florida Film Festival returned to Orlando’s Enzian Theater last month for ten full days of movie celebrating fun. Now in its 23rd year, the Florida Film Festival is an Oscar-qualifying festival, premiering 170 of the best in current, independent and international cinema. From April 4th-13th, film lovers from all walks of life came together for the non-stop fun and first-class events the festival has come to be known for. Called “the festival with a heart,” the Florida Film Festival gave Central Floridians the unique opportunity to mingle with numerous filmmakers and celebrities over handcrafted cocktails and a locally sourced menu. This year’s special guests and their featured films included Paul Sorvino featuring Goodfellas, Susan Sarandon featuring Dead Man Walking and Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito featuring Do the Right Thing.

Winter is long behind us and spring is in full bloom all around sunny Orlando, Florida! What better way to celebrate than Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival! All month long, guests have enjoyed dazzling gardens, high-energy entertainment and family fun for all. Running all the way through May 18th, this spectacular springtime event is jam packed with special experiences for every age and interest. Some of the 2014 festival highlights include: a delightful array of over 100 topiary displays featuring seasonal designs and several beloved Disney characters, savory seasonal foods at the Outdoor Kitchens around World Showcase, the Flower Power outdoor concert series starring a not to be missed lineup of classic musical acts such as Chubby Checker and The Guess Who, the IllumiNations Sparkling Dessert Party and much more. On the evening on April 10th, it was proved yet again that no one throws a party like Orlando Style Magazine! Together in conjunction with Aloft Orlando Downtown, the City’s Premiere Luxury Lifestyle Magazine presented their Spring Fling bash. To call the event a success would be quite the understatement! Over 500 guests showed up to Orlando’s hip, new hotel to celebrate the grand opening of their W XYZ Bar and Remix Lounge. Hundreds of VIP guests and Orlando Style readers were dressed to impress as they enjoyed select complimentary cocktails and appetizers, live entertainment, fashion models, a swimwear fashion show and more at what is bound to go down as this spring’s most exclusive event!.
