Grapes contain certain polyphenol antioxidants. These antioxidants found in red wine helps protect the lining in blood vessels in your heart. Of course too much red wine can actually do damage (among other things), so in moderation, red wine and your heart will have a happy relationship.
Many people are unaware of this. Red wine actually has a significant effect on cholesterol levels, according to a study from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain. Studies show “healthy” people who consume the same grape supplement found in red wine saw their LDL (bad cholesterol) levels decrease by 9%. People with high cholesterol experienced a drop of 12%. Why is that important? When you have high LDL (bad cholesterol) it causes your arteries to get filled with plaque, increasing your blood pressure, increasing your chance of a heart attack.
Protects You From the Cold
Scientists discovered that moderate consumption of red wine boosts the immune system, because of the antioxidant properties red wine has (beer and other spirits are not as lucky to have this luxury, sorry!) Because of this people who regularly drink red wine are less likely to catch the pesty cold among other infections!
Wine and Dinner go Together
People have been pairing red wine and dinner for hundreds of years. (It goes all the way back to 6000 B.C.!) It was consider a privilege/luxury to drink wine, only people of high class could drink it. As wine became more popular, it was preferred to have wine accompany meals. Today anyone can go out and buy a bottle of good wine to spice up their dinner, for a elegant wine n dine experience!
Red Wine Sauce
• Red wine
• 1 can of stock, beef or chicken
• Salt & Pepper
• Herbs and spices
Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan over medium heat then add 3 tablespoons of flour after the butter melts. Once melted, add 1 cup of red wine stirring continually to thicken it and remove lumps.
Taste the mixture as it cooks on medium high until the alcohol has been cooked off. Then pour the stock slowly into the mixture, until ingredients reach a creamy consistency. Remove from heat, add salt, pepper and spices to taste and let cool for 5-10 mins.
